Lake Maggiore or Verbano (Lagh Magior in piemontese, Piedmont dialect, Lagh Magio in lombard, Lombardy dialect) is a pre-alpine lake with fluvial / glacial origins.
Its shores are divided between Switzerland (Ticino Canton) and Italy (provinces of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Novara, Varese).

Lake Maggiore inspired many artists throughout the centuries, who praised its unrivalled beauty.
In his scripts, Stendhal often refers to lake Maggiore and its islands as jewels set in the waters of the lake.
